Unveiling Creativity: Penguin Books Declares Winners of the 2024 Cover Design Award

The 2024 Penguin Cover Design Award has unveiled its winners. This competition celebrates the remarkable talents of aspiring designers and illustrators.
The design world watched eagerly as Penguin Books announced the winners of its esteemed Cover Design Award for 2024 – a paramount competition celebrating the convergence of design finesse and storytelling magic. With over 1,800 submissions, a panel of seasoned judges had to make the tough calls across categories: children’s, adult fiction, and adult nonfiction. Here’s what creativity looks like this year:
Children’s Cover Design: The task was to capture the essence of City of Stolen Magic by Nazneen Ahmed Pathak, a story interweaving magic, secrets, and history. Charlotte Jennings won with a design that used a spiral composition and a warm orange palette to depict the protagonist’s journey.
Adult Fiction: Illustrators reenvisioned the cover for Daisy Jones and the Six by Taylor Jenkins-Reid, with a brief to encapsulate the ’70s vibe while aligning with popular culture. Cadi Rhind‘s entry prevailed, thanks to her blend of vintage typography and homage to the era’s Californian music scene.
Adult Nonfiction: The challenge was to redesign the cover of Atomic Habits by James Clear to reflect the book’s empowering message. George Griffiths clinched first place with a multi-layered design, illustrating habit formation through the assembly of various materials.
Apart from the celebration of design, winners also receive a six-month mentorship, Wacom tablets, and design books – valuable tools to further foster their burgeoning careers.
