Musical collaborations often take unexpected turns, but few can compare to the one between FKA Twigs and North West. Their new track, ‘Childlike Things,’ is a mesmerizing blend of energy, creativity, and inspiration from childhood memories.

FKA twigs has shared insights into her collaboration with North West on the track ‘Childlike Things’, which appears on her third studio album ‘EUSEXUA’. The track features West, the 11-year-old daughter of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, delivering a verse in Japanese. In a new video posted to Instagram, twigs explained how the collaboration came together while working in the studio with Lewis Roberts.

“I was working on ‘EUSEXUA’, I was in the studio one day with Lewis and my friends, and they started playing this bassline. Suddenly, out of nowhere, I heard a song; it just came into my head,” twigs recounted. The idea for the song is rooted in her own childhood and inspired by the classic book, Maurice Sendak’s *Where The Wild Things Are*. After her label suggested including a feature on the track, twigs felt a pull towards North’s confident persona.

“Really, it needs that childlike energy,” twigs asserted. “It needs someone with that strong point of view that you have when you’re 11. Then, I saw an interview with North West. She was so confident. I wasn’t that confident as a kid—I was shy and scared of the dark. It occurred to me that I would have loved to have a friend like North, who could speak up for themselves.”

No doubt, the timing of their collaboration is unique: “I wrote the song when I was 12/13; she wrote it when she was 11. When I wrote the song, North wasn’t born, and when she wrote it, I was 36. So we’ve collaborated through time. This is a collaboration that has taken decades to come to fruition.”
