Exciting news for music lovers and artists alike! Tim Burgess is set to unveil the Merch Market, a free event allowing bands to sell their merchandise without any commission fees.

Tim Burgess has announced a groundbreaking event: the Merch Market. This unique gathering will occur across multiple venues in Manchester and allows bands and artists to sell their merchandise commission-free.

The iconic frontman of The Charlatans will host his own stall, showcasing merchandise from his personal collection, including five exclusive Charlatans ‘Sproston Green’ sports bags ahead of their official release. “The Merch Market is a chance for bands and solo artists to check what’s stashed in their rehearsal room, languishing in storage or hiding under the bed – and it’s also the opportunity to make some limited run items, only available at The Merch Market,” Burgess explains.

Notably, this event is not just about selling; it’s an enriching experience for participants and attendees alike. Stalls are free, meaning bands can keep 100 percent of their earnings. Artists can also tap into cutting-edge merch printing options available on-site, thanks to collaborations with Print Manchester.

  • Date: May 25
  • Venues: O2 Ritz, Gorilla, Dog Bowl
  • Activities: Stalls, live performances, DJ sets, interviews, panels
  • Time: All-day event from 11am until late

Attendees will have the opportunity to win unique items, including signed vinyl test pressings and VIP tickets for Kendal Calling 2025. This initiative emerges from Burgess’s campaign against venue commissions on merchandise sales, which he began highlighting back in 2021. That year, he helped establish a database of ‘100% Venues,’ with over 400 venues agreeing not to take cuts from merchandise revenue.

For bands looking to sell their merchandise at the Merch Market, interested artists and manufacturers can request a stall via the Help Us Help Bands website. This initiative represents a transformative step for artists aiming to retain their hard-earned income while connecting with their fanbase.

Mark your calendars for this exceptional event! The Charlatans are also gearing up for the release of a picture disc vinyl of ‘The Only One I Know’ for Record Store Day 2025, making it an unmissable time for fans.
